An answer to my blogging slackness

June 27th, 2006

Why opening a page and logging into my blog to actually blog is such a road block is beyond me. I practically live in Firefox all day. Still, there it is…  But I think I’ve found the answer to my problem. A new (to me) extension to FF called Performancing. I heard about it a while ago, and just scoffed at the idea. Why blog from your browser.. how hard is it to just have a tab open. Oh well, now I see the light! I can blog and update my blog from within a specialized area in by browser. Neat! Let’s see if this increases the frequency of posts eh?

Web 2.0 APIs

June 26th, 2006

Seems like every man and his website is now exposing some service with an API. That’s great. The SOA world has been touting this is how it’s going to be for so long, it’s nice to see it finally happening. If you want to see what I mean, check out this list. Not short is it? And that’s great and all, but there’s one thing missing. Payment! Everyone needs to get paid. Right now, I can hit all of those APIs for free. That’s great for me, but what happens to the service provider if they get apidotted? Google, Yahoo and MSN won’t care, but the smaller guys? Can you say server overload? Oh well, since we’re in the infancy of this phase that’s to be expected. Micro payments will be needed in the future though.

Where have you been?

June 26th, 2006

Oh.. the long lost blog. I’d nearly forgotten about you. So sorry! Had my head down doing real work and stuff… I know that’s a crock of sh*t. Does’n take 2 mins to post a blog entry. Oh well.. I’ll try to get back to you..

Indigo Joe band site

June 4th, 2006

For a little while now I’ve been building a new site for Indigo Joe, my brother-in-law’s band. We finally took the site live a few days ago. It’s pretty simple and clean, with just a bit of sizzle added by some targetted use of AJAX (thanks prototype!), lightbox.js and moo.fx. Ok, nothing fancy about AJAX but I did really like the ease of use of moo.fx. Since working on ZP I’ve been playing with a lot of client side fun stuff so it was nice to tie it all together in a site I did completely on my own. I guess we also need to thank MySpace for hosting the media files for us, even though they probably don’t know we’re passing through like that ;) Got a bunch of site updates to do, but so far the exercise has been fun.
