Life is grand!

I’m currently living in Manhattan Beach, California. I’ve been all over the world, but it’s hard to beat M.B. It’s pretty much a paradise! And it helps living so close to the beach. Four mins by foot, and you hit the sand. Can’t complain!

And it’s a great environment for the family. Alexander is a complete beach rat. Give him some sand, and he’s happy as a pig in the proverbial. No doubt Oliver will follow suit.

Distributed Systems, Artificial Life, Gaming, Mobile Agents

I currently working in the software industry, where I focus on building the biggest, most bad ass, distributed systems going. Back in the day, I was one of the founders of DALi, where we built DALiWorld, which was a massively distributed virtual world teeming with artificial life. All the life forms were mobile agents, and this was probably the biggest mobile agent system ever built. Prior to DALi, I was doing research into mobile agents and emergent systems. You might like to read more about that work here. More recently, I was Chief Architect at Greenplum, where we built a software only, massively parallel database engine. At the time of writing, it’s currently called Bizgres MPP.

Pretty much, if it’s a massively distributed, parallel or peer to peer system, that’s where you’ll find me playing.

All work and no play..

Of course, there is way more to life than work! And I love to play. If there’s a chance for an adrenalin kick, it’s for me. If I can go fast, or it goes fast, I’m in! My wife’s not so happy with this streak, but what can ya do? Looks like Alexander is a chip off the old block in this regard.
